Topanga Butterfly Day is a beloved community event that celebrates and protects butterflies, bees, and other essential pollinators. This non-profit, environmental initiative has grown from its humble beginnings as "Monarch Days at the Mermaid" in 2015 to become a cherished Topanga tradition. Through fun, family-friendly activities, Butterfly Day promotes the preservation of pollinators, funds and educates environmental action, and raises community awareness about the importance of these creatures to our entire eco-system. Proceeds from the event benefit educational programs and environmental organizations in the Santa Monica Mountains, ensuring a lasting impact on the local community and environment.
Special thanks to Dianne Porchia for beautifully capturing her experience at the 4th Annual Butterfly Day 2023, held at the enchanting Mountain Mermaid in Topanga Canyon, California.
Coyolli Jimenez, a 12-year-old butterfly enthusiast, has been named the 2024 Butterfly Day Goodwill Ambassador. As the daughter of Sergio Jimenez, the butterfly expert at the Mountain Mermaid, Coyolli has been assisting her father in raising butterflies since the age of five. Her dedication and passion for these delicate creatures have earned her the honor of being the face of the 5th Annual Topanga Butterfly Day. Coyolli's image will grace posters and announcements for the event, showcasing her commitment to the preservation and celebration of butterflies.
